Magical May Morning by Ree

Working Calves May 12It was a magical May morning! Crisp, cool, and clean…perfect for working calves.

Working Calves May 12Oh! Before we set off into the pasture, though, I think some introductions are in order.

Working Calves May 12If you watched my Food Network episode Saturday, you may have seen the new additions to our family.

Working Calves May 12Meet Duke (left) and Lucy (right), the Dyanamic Duo.

Working Calves May 12Lucy had a collar, but her brother Duke is very, very ornery and they wrestled until it finally came off.

Working Calves May 12They are lovely puppies, and Charlie and the other dogs are…tolerating them.

They even actually enjoy them from time to time! They’ve been showing them the ropes around the ranch and teaching them how to be proper ranch dogs.

Charlie and Walter don’t like it when the puppies lick them on the face, though, and sometimes brawls break out.

But overall, the integration has been smooth.

Working Calves May 12Every now and then, Charlie gets a little melancholy when he thinks about a time when there weren’t so many dogs with which to compete…but he knows he’s number one in his mama’s heart.

How could he not be? He’s on his mama’s couch all the time.

Working Calves May 12As I said…it was a beautiful morning!

Working Calves May 12Paige, Todd, Alex, and Johnny (our cowboy) gathered one pasture while Bryce gathered another pasture with Josh and his kids.

Working Calves May 12A stocking cap in May is always hilarious.

Paige doesn’t like her ears to get cold.

Working Calves May 12“You think we do, little missy?”

Working Calves May 12Sheesh. Some cows can be so touchy!

Working Calves May 12This is Johnny.

Working Calves May 12He’s a nice fella. He’s been working on the ranch over the past year, and we like him a lot.

Working Calves May 12Alex and Todd.

They’re going to miss each other.

Working Calves May 12Todd’s especially going to miss Alex telling him what to do when they gather cattle.

Working Calves May 12I’m actually serious! Youngest child…he never minds being bossed around.

That would never, ever fly with my two middle children.

Working Calves May 12But Todd? Nope. Doesn’t bother him one bit.

Hope you’re all having a beautiful Tuesday so far!
