The weather has been so beautiful! Perfect for working cattle this week.
“Did you happen to bring breakfast this morning?”
No, sweetie. Not this morning.
Even though it’s not deathly cold, the grass has still died for the winter. And that’s why the cattle flock around the feed truck like white on rice.
I decided to take a self portrait in the side view mirror. My complexion looks a little mottled these days. I need exfoliation!
Yep. In the wintertime, cattle will follow a feed truck anywhere.
Everyone on horseback keeps the herd together from behind and on the sides.
And they ride out into the pasture to get any stragglers. Here are Johnny and Todd! They’ve already found a few and pushed them toward the herd.
Good job, boys.
There’s Paige.
There’s Bryce.
There are Paige and Bryce!
Once all the cattle are gathered into one big bunch…
The feed truck (with the help of the cowboys/cowgirls on horseback) leads them to the pens.
Ah, a nice, neat line. It’s wonderful when this happens. On some days, if the cattle are frisky, it doesn’t go this smoothly.
Once they’re in the pens, they get sorted and worked…
And the sweaty horses get to rest!
“Did you happen to bring breakfast this morning?”
Doesn’t matter what species it is. Everyone on the ranch looks at me and wonders where the food is. It’s part of my identity.
(And I’m okay with that.)
